Most of us have battled with acne or pimples at some point in our lives.  Whether it is caused by hormonal imbalance, oxidative damage, clogged pores, dead skin cells or poor diet, here are a few home remedies for acne brewed in your own kitchen: Apple Cider Vinegar and Manuka Honey Mask: One leading cause of acne is believed to be bacteria on our skin and in our pores.  Both apple cider vinegar and honey are good antiseptics, unless of course if your skin is sensitive to honey and ends up breaking out.  Test an area ofskin  that is not exposed by applying a few drops of honey to it and letting it sit for at least 15-20 minutes, preferably overnight.  If your skin is not sensitive to honey, mix 3  tablespoons of Manuka honey with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar until completely blended and apply it to the acne-affected areas of your face and leave it for an hour to an hour and a half. The result should be a glowing skin and pimple-free face.

You can also use apple cider vinegar as a morning toner applied with cotton balls to gently cleanse your skin before you head out for the day. Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil has a component called “terpenes” which besides being a natural antiseptic also soothe your skin, to help tame the mutinous and acne ravaged skin breakouts.  Like the apple cider vinegar, apply tea tree oil with soft cotton balls, gently cleansing your face to both kill the bacteria and cleanse clogged pores.  The tea tree oil helps to break down the blockage produced by over-active sebaceous glands that naturally produce oil for skin.  When the pores for these glands are clogged, excess oil trapped under the skin causes pimples.  Tea tree oil cleans these pores to help prevent pimples from forming. Baking Soda: Baking soda is another powerful home remedy for acne and clearing up pimples.  The theory behind why baking soda works well to clear up acne is that it helps peel skin, clear up dead skin cells and gently and naturally remove excess oil produced by sebaceous glands.  Baking soda is a successful pimple inflammation treatment and counteracts build up on your skin.  Make a thick paste using some baking soda and water or lemon juice.  Wash your face with cold water leaving it marginally moist.  Apply the paste to affected areas and leave it for a couple of minutes, then wash your face with warm water and pat dry iwith a soft towel.  Repeat this procedure two or more times a day depending on the intensity of the break out. Witch Hazel: Witch hazel is also a great cleansing agent for skin, acting as an astringent to dry out and shrink blemishes, whiteheads and blackheads.  Unlike other astringents that can cause skin irritation and dry out the skin, witch hazel is gentle on the skin and other than cleansing and toning the skin does not have any harsh side effects.  Use cotton balls to gently apply witch hazel to affected areas of face to cleanse and tone your skin.
